In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: inet: fully convert sk->sk_rx_dst to RCU rules syzbot reported various issues around early demux, one being included in this changelog [1] sk->sk_rx_dst is using RCU protection without clearly documenting it. And following sequences in tcp_v4_do_rcv()/tcp_v6_do_rcv() are not following standard RCU rules. [a] dst_release(dst); [b] sk->sk_rx_dst = NULL; They look wrong because a delete operation of RCU protected pointer is supposed to clear the pointer before the call_rcu()/synchronize_rcu() guarding actual memory freeing. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv4, ipv6: Fix handling of transhdrlen in __ip{,6}_append_data() Including the transhdrlen in length is a problem when the packet is partially filled (e.g. something like send(MSG_MORE) happened previously) when appending to an IPv4 or IPv6 packet as we don't want to repeat the transport header or account for it twice. This can happen under some circumstances, such as splicing into an L2TP socket. The symptom observed is a warning in __ip6_append_data(): WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 5042 at net/ipv6/ip6_output.c:1800 __ip6_append_data.isra.0+0x1be8/0x47f0 net/ipv6/ip6_output.c:1800 that occurs when MSG_SPLICE_PAGES is used to append more data to an already partially occupied skbuff. The warning occurs when 'copy' is larger than the amount of data in the message iterator. This is because the requested length includes the transport header length when it shouldn't. This can be triggered by, for example: sfd = socket(AF_INET6, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_L2TP); bind(sfd, ...); // ::1 connect(sfd, ...); // ::1 port 7 send(sfd, buffer, 4100, MSG_MORE); sendfile(sfd, dfd, NULL, 1024); Fix this by only adding transhdrlen into the length if the write queue is empty in l2tp_ip6_sendmsg(), analogously to how UDP does things. l2tp_ip_sendmsg() looks like it won't suffer from this problem as it builds the UDP packet itself.

To prevent the sk free, as a holder of the sk, ep should be alive when calling lock_sock(). This patch uses call_rcu() and moves sock_put and ep free into sctp_endpoint_destroy_rcu(), so that it's safe to try to hold the ep under rcu_read_lock in sctp_transport_traverse_process(). If sctp_endpoint_hold() returns true, it means this ep is still alive and we have held it and can continue to dump it; If it returns false, it means this ep is dead and can be freed after rcu_read_unlock, and we should skip it. In sctp_sock_dump(), after locking the sk, if this ep is different from tsp->asoc->ep, it means during this dumping, this asoc was peeled off before calling lock_sock(), and the sk should be skipped; If this ep is the same with tsp->asoc->ep, it means no peeloff happens on this asoc, and due to lock_sock, no peeloff will happen either until release_sock. Note that delaying endpoint free won't delay the port release, as the port release happens in sctp_endpoint_destroy() before calling call_rcu(). Also, freeing endpoint by call_rcu() makes it safe to access the sk by asoc->base.sk in sctp_assocs_seq_show() and sctp_rcv().
