In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/hyperv: validate VMBus packet size in receive callback hyperv_receive_sub() reads msg->vid_hdr.type and dispatches into one of four message-type branches without knowing how many bytes the host wrote into hv->recv_buf. The completion path then runs memcpy(hv->init_buf, msg, VMBUS_MAX_PACKET_SIZE), so the consumer that wakes on wait_for_completion_timeout() can read up to 16 KiB of residue from a prior message as if it were the response payload. Pass bytes_recvd into hyperv_receive_sub() and reject any packet that does not cover the pipe + synthvid header. A single switch on msg->vid_hdr.type then computes the type-specific payload size: the three completion-driving types (SYNTHVID_VERSION_RESPONSE, SYNTHVID_RESOLUTION_RESPONSE, SYNTHVID_VRAM_LOCATION_ACK) fall through to a shared exit that requires that size before memcpy/complete, while SYNTHVID_FEATURE_CHANGE validates its own payload and returns before reading is_dirt_needed. Unknown types are dropped. SYNTHVID_RESOLUTION_RESPONSE is variable length: the host fills resolution_count entries, not the full SYNTHVID_MAX_RESOLUTION_COUNT array. Validate the fixed prefix first so resolution_count can be read, bound it against the array, then require only the count-sized array, so the shorter responses the host actually sends are accepted. Only run the sub-handler when vmbus_recvpacket() returned success. The memcpy length is bytes_recvd, which is bounded by VMBUS_MAX_PACKET_SIZE only on a successful receive; on -ENOBUFS vmbus_recvpacket() instead reports the required length, which can exceed hv->recv_buf, so copying bytes_recvd would read and write past the 16 KiB buffers. Gating on the success return keeps the copy bounded. The nonzero-return path is itself a malformed-message case and is now logged rather than silently skipped; channel recovery is not attempted. Rejected packets are reported via drm_err_ratelimited() rather than silently dropped, matching the CoCo-hardened pattern in hv_kvp_onchannelcallback().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/hyperv: validate resolution_count and fix WIN8 fallback A SYNTHVID_RESOLUTION_RESPONSE with resolution_count > 64 walks past the supported_resolution[SYNTHVID_MAX_RESOLUTION_COUNT] array in the parse loop. Bound resolution_count against the array size, folded into the existing zero-check. When the WIN10 resolution probe fails, the caller in hyperv_connect_vsp() left hv->screen_*_max / preferred_* unpopulated, which sets mode_config.max_width / max_height to 0 and makes drm_internal_framebuffer_create() reject every userspace framebuffer with -EINVAL. The pre-WIN10 branch had the same gap for preferred_width / preferred_height. Use a single post-probe fallback guarded by screen_width_max == 0 so both paths converge on the WIN8 defaults.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: Unconditionally recompute CR8 intercept on PPR update The TPR_THRESHOLD field in the VMCS is used by VMX to induce VM exits when the guest's virtual TPR falls under the specified threshold, allowing KVM to inject previously masked interrupts. KVM handles these VM exits in handle_tpr_below_threshold(). Commit eb90f3417a0c ("KVM: vmx: speed up TPR below threshold vmexits") optimized this function by calling apic_update_ppr() instead of raising KVM_REQ_EVENT. apic_update_ppr() then raises KVM_REQ_EVENT if there is a pending, deliverable interrupt. However, if there are no new interrupts pending, apic_update_ppr() does not issue the request. Thus, kvm_lapic_update_cr8_intercept() and vmx_update_cr8_intercept() are not called before VM entry, which results in a high, stale TPR_THRESHOLD. This is problematic due to the following sentence in 28.2.1.1 "VM-Execution Control Fields" in the SDM: The following check is performed if the “use TPR shadow” VM-execution control is 1 and the “virtualize APIC accesses” and “virtual-interrupt delivery” VM-execution controls are both 0: the value of bits 3:0 of the TPR threshold VM-execution control field should not be greater than the value of bits 7:4 of VTPR. This error condition is typically not observed when KVM runs on a bare metal system because modern processors support APICv, which enables virtual-interrupt delivery, and which KVM uses when possible. This causes the processor to no longer generate TPR-below-threshold exits and to no longer check TPR_THRESHOLD on entry. However, when running on older platforms, or under nested virtualization on a hypervisor that does not support virtual-interrupt delivery and enforces this check (like Hyper-V) this can cause a VM entry failure with hardware error 0x7, as seen in [1]. Call kvm_lapic_update_cr8_intercept() if apic_update_ppr() does not find a deliverable interrupt (and thus does not raise KVM_REQ_EVENT). Remove calls to kvm_lapic_update_cr8_intercept() on paths that end up in apic_update_ppr(), as they now become redundant. This ensures that any path that updates the guest's PPR also figures out if KVM needs to wait for a TPR change (using TPR_THRESHOLD on VMX or CR8 intercepts on SVM).

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hwrng: virtio: clamp device-reported used.len at copy_data() random_recv_done() stores the device-reported used.len directly into vi->data_avail. copy_data() then indexes vi->data[] using vi->data_idx (advanced by previous copy_data() calls) and issues a memcpy() without re-validating either value against the posted buffer size sizeof(vi->data) (SMP_CACHE_BYTES bytes, typically 32 or 64). A malicious or buggy virtio-rng backend can set used.len beyond sizeof(vi->data), steering the memcpy() past the end of the inline array into adjacent kmalloc-1k slab bytes. hwrng_fillfn() mixes those bytes into the guest RNG, and guest root can also observe them directly via /dev/hwrng. Concrete impact is inside the guest: - Memory-safety / hardening: any virtio-rng backend that over-reports used.len causes the driver to read past vi->data into unrelated slab contents. hwrng_fillfn() is a kernel thread that runs as soon as the device is probed; no guest userspace interaction is required to first-trigger the OOB. - Cross-boundary leak (confidential-compute threat model): a malicious hypervisor cooperating with a malicious or compromised guest root userspace can use /dev/hwrng as a leak channel for guest-kernel heap data. The host sets a large used.len, guest root reads /dev/hwrng, and the returned bytes contain guest kernel slab contents that were adjacent to vi->data. In practice, confidential-compute guests (SEV-SNP, TDX) usually disable virtio-rng entirely, so this path is narrow, but the fix is still worth carrying because the underlying memory-safety bug contaminates the guest RNG on any host. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: hyper-v: Bound the bank index when querying sparse banks When checking if a VP ID is included in a sparse bank set, explicitly check that the ID can actually be contained in a sparse bank (the TLFS allows for a maximum of 64 banks of 64 vCPUs each). When handling a paravirtual TLB flush for L2, the VP ID is copied verbatim from the enlightened VMCS, without any bounds check, i.e. isn't guaranteed to be under the limit of 4096. Kata Containers is an open source project focusing on a standard implementation of lightweight Virtual Machines (VMs) that perform like containers. Versions prior to 3.31.0 ship with a default configuration that allows pod creators to inject arbitrary command-line arguments into the virtiofsd process through the `io.katacontainers.config.hypervisor.virtio_fs_extra_args` pod annotation. By injecting `-o source=/` along with `--no-announce-submounts` and `--sandbox=none`, an attacker can override the virtiofsd shared directory to serve the entire host root filesystem into the guest VM. Combined with the `kernel_params` annotation (also enabled by default) to activate the agent debug console, the attacker can mount the host filesystem from inside the VM and read or write any file on the host, including /etc/shadow. Version 3.31.0 patches the issue.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: arm64: Correctly cap ZCR_EL2 provided by a guest hypervisor ZCR_EL2 can be updated by a VHE guest hypervisor either using ZCR_EL2 (which traps) or ZCR_EL1 (which does not trap). KVM handles both in different way: - on ZCR_EL2 trap, ZCR_EL2.LEN is immediately capped at the VM's own VL limit. This has the potential to break existing SW that relies on the full LEN field to be stateful. - on ZCR_EL1 access, we do absolutely nothing. On restoring the SVE context for an L2 guest, we directly restore the guest hypervisor's view of ZCR_EL2 into the physical ZCR_EL2. If the guest's view of the register was updated using the ZCR_EL2 accessor, the value has already been sanitised (with the caveat mentioned above). But if the guest used ZCR_EL1, the raw value is written into the HW, and the L2 guest can now access VLs that it shouldn't. Fix all the above by moving the VL capping to the restore points, ensuring that: - the HW is always programmed with a capped value, irrespective of the accessor being used, - the ZCR_EL2.LEN field is always completely stateful, irrespective of the accessor being used. Additionally, move ZCR_EL2 to be a sanitised register, ensuring that only the LEN field is actually stateful. This requires some creative construction of the RES0 mask, as the sysreg generation script does not yet generate RAZ/WI fields. [maz: rewrote commit message, tidy up access_zcr_el2()]

Cloud Hypervisor is a Virtual Machine Monitor for Cloud workloads. From version 21.0 to before version 51.2, a guest can cause a use-after-free in the cloud-hypervisor process by submitting two virtio-block descriptor chains that reuse the same head_index while asynchronous block I/O is enabled (e.g. io_uring, aio). When the kernel completes the duplicate operation before the original, the completion path frees a bounce buffer that the kernel is still actively reading from or writing to, corrupting the freed memory. This issue has been patched in versions 51.2 and 52.0.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock/virtio: fix accept queue count leak on transport mismatch virtio_transport_recv_listen() calls sk_acceptq_added() before vsock_assign_transport(). If vsock_assign_transport() fails or selects a different transport, the error path returns without calling sk_acceptq_removed(), permanently incrementing sk_ack_backlog. After approximately backlog+1 such failures, sk_acceptq_is_full() returns true, causing the listener to reject all new connections. Fix by moving sk_acceptq_added() to after the transport validation, matching the pattern used by vmci_transport and hyperv_transport.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: check for nEPT/nNPT in slow flush hypercalls Checking is_guest_mode(vcpu) is incorrect, because translate_nested_gpa() is only valid if an L2 guest is running *with nested EPT/NPT enabled*. Instead use the same condition as translate_nested_gpa() itself.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: nSVM: Raise #UD if unhandled VMMCALL isn't intercepted by L1 Explicitly synthesize a #UD for VMMCALL if L2 is active, L1 does NOT want to intercept VMMCALL, nested_svm_l2_tlb_flush_enabled() is true, and the hypercall is something other than one of the supported Hyper-V hypercalls. When all of the above conditions are met, KVM will intercept VMMCALL but never forward it to L1, i.e. will let L2 make hypercalls as if it were L1. The TLFS says a whole lot of nothing about this scenario, so go with the architectural behavior, which says that VMMCALL #UDs if it's not intercepted. Opportunistically do a 2-for-1 stub trade by stub-ifying the new API instead of the helpers it uses. The last remaining "single" stub will soon be dropped as well. Claude HUD through 0.0.12, patched in commit 234d9aa, constructs OSC 8 terminal hyperlink escape sequences using raw cwd and branchUrl values without stripping control characters or encoding embedded values, allowing attackers to inject arbitrary ANSI codes into terminal sessions. Attackers can embed ESC+backslash sequences in the current working directory or branch URL to execute malicious ANSI codes including text color changes, forged prompts, and OSC 52 clipboard writes, or trigger outbound HTTP requests to attacker-controlled remotes when hyperlinks are clicked.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm64: dts: qcom: monaco: Reserve full Gunyah metadata region We observe spurious "Synchronous External Abort" exceptions (ESR=0x96000010) and kernel crashes on Monaco-based platforms. These faults are caused by the kernel inadvertently accessing hypervisor-owned memory that is not properly marked as reserved. >From boot log, The Qualcomm hypervisor reports the memory range at 0x91a80000 of size 0x80000 (512 KiB) as hypervisor-owned: qhee_hyp_assign_remove_memory: 0x91a80000/0x80000 -> ret 0 However, the EFI memory map provided by firmware only reserves the subrange 0x91a40000–0x91a87fff (288 KiB). The remaining portion (0x91a88000–0x91afffff) is incorrectly reported as conventional memory (from efi debug): efi: 0x000091a40000-0x000091a87fff [Reserved...] efi: 0x000091a88000-0x0000938fffff [Conventional...] As a result, the allocator may hand out PFNs inside the hypervisor owned region, causing fatal aborts when the kernel accesses those addresses. Add a reserved-memory carveout for the Gunyah hypervisor metadata at 0x91a80000 (512 KiB) and mark it as no-map so Linux does not map or allocate from this area. Account users are allowed by default to register templates to be downloaded directly to the primary storage for deploying instances using the KVM hypervisor. Due to missing file name sanitization, an attacker can register malicious templates to execute arbitrary code on the KVM hosts. This can result in the compromise of resource integrity and confidentiality, data loss, denial of service, and availability of the KVM-based infrastructure managed by CloudStack. Users are recommended to upgrade to Apache CloudStack versions 4.20.3.0 or 4.22.0.1, or later, which fixes this issue.
